My service is intermittent and/or my broadband speed is slow, what should I do?

Any questions you have about your current broadband services should go straight to your broadband provider. Superfast fibre broadband won’t change the broadband you currently receive, but once it’s available in your area it does mean you can upgrade to it.

Is there anything else I can do to improve my speed in the mean time?

The position of your wireless router in the home can affect the strength of the connection you receive, when possible; place your router in a central location in your home
If your wireless router, modem router, or access point is against an outside wall of your home, the signal will be weak on the other side of your home. If your router is on the first floor and your PC or laptop is on the second floor, place the router high on a shelf in the room where it is located
Don't worry if you can't move your wireless router, because there are many other ways to improve your connection. Placing your router near walls and metal objects can also weaken your connection
Try to avoid positioning your router near metal objects, walls, and floors as these will interfere with your router's wireless signals
Reboot or unplug your router for 30 seconds
Something so simple as resetting the router using the button on the back of the device, or unplugging it at the mains can improve connectivity
Basic maintenance of your computer or laptop
Update your anti-virus software, empty your recycle bin and delete old or unused programmes
Share your broadband connection, with a high speed broadband connection you can easily share connection to the Internet amongst several PCs or other devices in your home, this would not be practical with a dial up connection
Many homes now have several PC's, laptops, smart phones and other electronic devices that can access the Internet using a simple Wi-Fi network in the home
This means that employment, education, leisure and entertainment possibilities are open to all the family.

Engineers have carried out work on the broadband infrastructure in my area and have not put things back as they were. What should I do?

If you would like to report dissatisfaction with the conduct of engineers, health and safety concerns, or any damage caused, please verify which company the engineers are installing network for, and raise your concerns with the relevant support department.
